My work is focused on a mix of global and personal events. I either get my inspiration from stories in the news that I feel personally connected to or from personal experiences that I believe are universally shared. I believe that global events are not something that just happens to other people "out there". I do not consider myself a political artist. However, I recognize that politics are an integral part of what is going on in the world, and I believe that it is the job of all artists to interpret the world around us, whether that be the world in our living rooms or the world as seen and read in the news. One is no less important to us than the other. The news is created by personal events that become global and our personal events are created in the midst of a global consciousness. My work reflects the duality present in the outer and inner worlds, and I seek to bring together the two conflicting parts, while at the same time reflecting the beauty and the depth created in-between. Without good and evil, without left and right, with out front and back, the earth would be flat. It is the space between that creates the multi-dimensional world in which we live. Because I often focus on current events, I recognize that not all of my pieces will remain "current". When the event has passed and is no longer newsworthy, that piece will become historical, but not irrelevant. It then becomes like a family snapshot in an old photo album. Although the external appearance of the people has changed and become a thing of the past, their spirit does live on. I hope that in the future my work will convey something that those old news articles might not convey so well. It will convey something of the spirit of that event and time. I was born and raised in Florida and have a Bachelor's degree in Industrial design from Auburn University. I spent five years in Chicago, IL working as a tradeshow exhibit designer for two exhibit design companies, Nimlok and Exhibitgroup/Giltspur. Additionally, I studied for several years at the post-Baccalaureate level at Georgia State University in Drawing/Painting and Sculpture. I currently reside in Miami, FL where I have established a studio/gallery called Undercurrent Arts - www.undercurrentarts.com.
